DisasterTheory's Continued Battle With Instagram
As many of you may know, DisasterTheory’s main account (officialdisastertheory) was suspended by Instagram a few days ago.
It had become clear that the cause of this suspension was due to rogue Instagram statistic software that tracks growth and engagement. The software had apparently also performed background activity and also had a constant connection to Instagram. This type of automation violates Instagram’s community standards. Thus, Instagram suspended the account.
We cannot stress how infuriating it is that Instagram has no actual way to contact them directly with issues such as this in order to rectify the situation.
Fast forward to today:
DisasterTheory created a new instagram account in an attempt to stay connected to fans (we had over 10.2k followers after all. These are not connection we willingly wanted to walk away from.
Upon setting up an Instagram account, they essentially set you up to violate their terms. They provide you an endless list of suggested people to follow. So we decided that we will start this account by doing what they suggest. We followed the people Instagram suggested.
We began posting our content and following BACK the people that followed us.
One of us had noticed a relative and attempted to follow them. It was at that moment (literally the same day) that Instagram suspended our NEW account, stating “suspicious activity.”
Perhaps we are missing something, but following their terms of service and simply using their platform for what it’s made for, is enough to get you suspended.
We strongly feel that there must be something else behind this, but since you cannot communicate with them, we may never know.
We will try to keep everyone updated.
